FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    QUESTION
  • I’ve got work / festivals / social events on Grading Day, can I still join the club?

    ANSWER
  • Yes. Come along to any Wednesday night training session from 7pm in the next few at the Uni fields and you’ll be put into a team and start training straight away.

    QUESTION

  • I left my boots and shin pads back home overseas / I don’t have any boots, can I still play?

    ANSWER
  • For now you’ll be fine, boots and shin pads are not compulsory for training or trials however when the season gets underway in April you will need to wear boots and shin pads to matches.

    QUESTION
  • Which type of soccer do you play? Indoor? Full field?

    ANSWER
  • Matches are played on full fields, last 90 minutes, and are refereed. Unfortunately we currently do not offer any half-field or indoor programmes.

    QUESTION
  • When is training / When are matches?

    ANSWER
  • Training for all teams is on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm, with Super League also training Monday nights at the same times.
Women are training this year on Tuesdays at 630pm.
Men’s matches are usually Saturday afternoons, the most common times being 1:15 and 3:15.
Women’s matches are Sunday…. games are usually, 11:45am, 1:15pm and 3:15pm depending on the division.

    QUESTION
  • I won’t be able to make regular Wednesday night training, is that ok?

    ANSWER
  • Most teams usually have a few people who can’t make every session, but if you genuinely won’t be able to make any sessions you should request to be put into one of the social teams, and it shouldn’t be a huge problem.

    QUESTION
  • I won’t be able to come to all matches due to work / uni commitments, can I still play?

    ANSWER
  • Like with training, some people aren’t able to make every match, and this is fine as long as you notify your team manager when you can’t make it.

    QUESTION
  • How competitive is the football?

    ANSWER
  • As competitive as you want it to be! We have 8 men’s teams competing this year and 3 women’s teams. If you’re interested in playing socially we have teams to suit you, and we go right up to the ultra-competitive Super League teams.

    QUESTION
  • I’ve never played soccer before / I haven’t played for years/I don’t think I’m good enough.

    ANSWER
  • As mentioned, we have a wide range of teams, and both men and women often play their first year of soccer with a uni team. Come along and you’re guaranteed to find people of a similar skill level.

    QUESTION
  • I’m still not convinced; can I train for a few weeks and see if I still want to join?

    ANSWER
  • Certainly. Player registration isn’t until the 25th of March so there’s still plenty of time to come check us out before you commit to the season, and there’s no obligation to register if you come to a few training sessions.

    QUESTION
  • How long is the season?

    ANSWER
  • The season goes for roughly 16 weeks from April to August, with games continuing throughout the mid-semester break and break between semester one and two.

    QUESTION
  • I’m an international student and only here for semester one, can I still join?

    ANSWER
  • Yes! Each year we have many, many international students playing with us until they leave.

    QUESTION
  • I live in Manly / Epping / Wahroonga, where are matches usually played?

    ANSWER
  • Men’s teams are registered in the Gladesville-Hornsby competition, and so all matches are usually within a short distance of Macquarie Uni, examples of teams we play are Epping, Gladesville, Pennant Hills, and Thornleigh.
Women play in the North West Sydney Woman’s Football league and it covers the same area as the men. Games are mainly held at Morrison Bay and Meadowbank Park with a few exceptions.

    QUESTION
  • I already play for another club; can I still play for you guys?

    ANSWER
  • That depends, as mentioned above we train Wednesdays and matches are Saturdays for men and Sundays for women, so it really depends on when your other team plays.
We do however encourage students to play for us, as it’s a great way to meet like-minded fellow students at the uni.
Pretty sure you can’t play for more than one club, it isn’t allowed. If you play indoor for another team no worries, but you cannot play for Mac and play for Epping Eastwood for example.
    QUESTION
  • How much is registration for the full season?

    ANSWER
  • Registration is $220 for students and $300 for non-students. This includes match-day shorts and socks. Once registered you can play every game without further fee.
